A Daily Necessity Or A Dust Collector?

What would your life be like if  you did not daily have food, light,  water and a mirror?
How many times a week do you look in the mirror? Eat? Wash your hands or have a shower? Drink water?
Did you know the Bible is compared to each of these things?

*The Bible is like food or milk. (Matthew 4:4, 1 Peter 2:2)
It's spiritual food. We need physical food for our body and we need the Bible to feed our soul and help us grow.

*The Bible is like a light.  (Psalm 119:105)
Without it, we're in the dark, and we're going  to trip over and not even see what we're tripping on. The Bible shows us danger. It shows us the right way. It helps us see spiritually.

*The Bible is like water. (Psalm 119:9, Ephesians 5:26)
It helps keeps us clean from sin  and it satisfies our thirsty soul.

*The Bible is like a mirror. (James 1:22-25)
It shows us what we really look like. It shows us what needs cleansing and changing.

The Bible is also like seeds that when they're planted, bring forth plants or fruit. It's like treasure, worth searching for and very valuable. It's a sword to fight Satan with. It's a tuner to keep us in tune with God. It's a letter from God to us. It's a map to show us the way to Heaven. It is God's own words to humans.

Do you value the Bible for what it really is? Do you open it as often as you eat, drink, look in the mirror, and wash your hands? Or is it like an ornament that sits on the shelf and collects dust? We need to read God's Word every day and let it change our lives! If you struggle to understand it, pray each time you read and ask God to help you. (I wrote this post for myself because I often underestimate the importance of reading the Bible every day.)
