And
Isaac intreated the LORD for his wife, because she was barren: and
the LORD was intreated of him, and Rebekah his wife conceived. And
the children struggled together within her; and she said, If
it be so, why am I thus? And she went to inquire of the LORD.And
the LORD said unto her, Two nations are in thy womb, and two
manner of people shall be separated from thy bowels; and the one
people shall be stronger than the other people; and the elder shall
serve the younger.
Pregnant
Rebekah was puzzled by the struggle in her womb. God's answer was,
'Two nations are in thy womb.” Not just two babies but two nations. When Christ is born in our soul, when he comes to live inside of us, a struggle also begins. A struggle between right and wrong—between God and the Devil. We don't become perfect when we are saved. When we are saved, we start to become more and more aware of the struggle.
When we are saved, we become a new creature in Christ. We start to want to do right and please God. But as Jesus said “Watch ye and pray lest ye enter into temptation. The spirit truly is ready, but the flesh is weak.”
We may think sometimes, “If I'm really saved, why is there such a struggle to do what's right?” If it be so, why am I thus?
But
if you have no struggle with sin, then you're the one who needs to
worry! Because the more we get to know God, the more we see how
sinful we are and how much we need changing.
A
dusty room appears nice and clean, until the sun starts shining in.
Suddenly you realize the room is covered in dust. There's even dust
swirling around in the air.
God
is light. We often think we are doing pretty well. Then we start to
pray and ask God to search us, and guess what? We realize that we
need changing from head to toe.
But the
Bible promises, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just
to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
1 John 1:9
