There is one thing I love
about this awful story.
Joseph is proof that it is
possible to resist temptation.
He was tempted with very
strong temptation, but he didn't fall.
It IS possible! We
hear so much today of people falling into sin. It sometimes seems
like it's impossible to stay pure when tempted. We even hear of
preachers and pastors doing disgraceful things. There are so many
girls that go astray in their teen years-get pregnant before
marriage, stop going to church, live with a guy before marriage,
rebel against their parents. There is so much peer pressure and
temptations for teenage girls today. Is it really possible to
stand—to stay pure, to live right, to be different?
Joseph is proof! We don't
have to fall and make a mess of our lives.
1 Corinthians 10:13
“There hath no
temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is
faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that you are
able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye
may be able to bear it.”
I read an illustration
once that sums it up pretty well. People are like toothpicks and God
is like a nail. A toothpick on its own is easy to snap but a
toothpick alongside a nail is impossible to snap because of the
strength of the nail.
So in our own strength
we'll fall easily, but close to God and trusting in His strength we
won't snap! We must stay close to God all the time.
Jude 24 “Now unto him
that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless
before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy.”
