Missing the Point

One thing I've been learning in the last few years is that it's very easy for Christian girls/women to miss the point!
One particular area I've noticed is with clothes.
The Bible teaches us that girls should dress modestly. As a result some people have particular guidelines for how they dress... like wearing skirts etc. And I have no problem with that, because I usually wear skirts myself! But it's easy to miss the point! Some people who wear skirts can be very immodest! But they're wearing a skirt, so they think they're ok.

Maybe it's the top they wear with the skirt that is immodest, or maybe it's the skirt itself! Wearing a skirt isn't a magic way of being modest. Some skirts are too tight. When skirts get too short, you can't sit decently in them. Some people who always wear skirts will go to the beach and think it's normal to wear not much more than their underwear. Does modesty only matter in some places? Can you see how that's missing the point?? I don't mean to hurt you if that's what you do, but you really need to think about it. Are you missing the point?
There are lots of other ways we can miss the point with clothes. Modesty doesn't just mean not being rude. I used to think that's all it meant. Modesty also means not drawing attention to yourself. It's possible to be very careful about not wearing revealing clothes, but also draw attention to yourself by dressing out of date etc. Now I know in this world today, it's nearly old-fashioned to not draw attention to your body by how you dress. So if you dress modestly, you will be seen as different. But it is still possible to be modest and modern!
So.... just make sure you're not missing the point!
