(Lessons from Potipher's Wife)

For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. 1John 2:16 

   Potiphar's wife cast her eyes upon Joseph. (Genesis 39:7) She committed adultery right then and there in her heart. Her sin began in the eye.

   This seems to be a pattern in the Bible. If these people had been blind, they would have been saved a lot of trouble!

   David--He saw Bathsheba washing herself, then he inquired after her, then he sent for her, then he committed adultery with her. (2 Samuel 11:2)

   Achan-- He saw the clothes, silver and gold, then he coveted, then he took them. (Joshua 7:21)

   Eve-- She saw the fruit was good to eat, then took it and ate it, and gave it to her husband to eat. (Genesis 3:6)

   We're affected by what we see. Or you could even say, we're infected by what we see.

   Some things we can't help seeing and then we need to stop right there and ask God for cleansing and help to be pure and right.

    But there are a lot of things we can help seeing.

     I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes:Psalm 101:3

   We can choose what movies/tv we watch, we can choose what books/magazines we read, we can choose what places we go to, we can choose what internet sites we browse.

   And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out: it is better for thee to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye, than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire: Mark 9:47
   In another words, if what you see causes you to sin--get rid of it!

   Eyes can be a big blessing or a big stumblingblock.
